Russian MOD showcases Konstantinovka liberation highlights (VIDEO)
The Russian Defense Ministry has released a video featuring highlights from the battle for the city of Konstantinovka, after Moscow announced the full liberation of the key Ukrainian stronghold on Friday.
Konstantinovka is part of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, a string of small cities in the northwest of Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). The agglomeration has been heavily fortified by Ukrainian forces and remains the last major stronghold under Kiev’s control in the region.
Footage released by the military shortly after the announcement shows moments from the fierce battle for the city.
The video features assorted drone and artillery strikes on Ukrainian troops, as well as Russian soldiers unfurling the country’s flags at captured positions. The city has been heavily damaged during the weeks of fighting, with many buildings reduced to rubble.
The liberation of Konstantinovka has been touted as a major achievement by the Russian leadership. The city is located at the southernmost tip of the fortified agglomeration, some 15 km southeast of Kramatorsk; the small town of Druzhkovka is located between them.
